Through Canine Companions for Independence, participants are partnered with a program-approved dog for multiple training sessions and interactive exercises. If the partnership is deemed an appropriate fit, these graduate teams are then paired for the foreseeable future, helping to support quality of life and generate plenty of smiles in the process.
There are several success stories that help highlight the difference of this Canine Companions for Independence Program, an organization the team at Byers Subaru Dublin proudly supports. Janie, a PhD candidate in the department of Disability and Human Development at The University of Illinois at Chicago, has worked with a service dog named Haven since 2015. Haven assists in retrieving medication and motivates Janie to strike up conversations with new people. For Josh, a disabled U.S. military veteran, his skilled companion dog Debra helps with physical therapy and daily tasks, naturally providing plenty of fun moments and warm interactions throughout.
The new North Central Campus, set to replace the program’s current outgrown facility, will serve as the foundation for future Canine Companions for Independence program success. From canine companions and local community gatherings to staff, 44 state-of-the-art kennels, training spaces and guest rooms all hosted under one roof, the process becomes seamless. Issues such as renting additional space and hosting meetings off-site no longer become relevant.
