Byers Subaru Dublin Wind Turbine

Environmental Savings

In October of 2010 Byers Subaru Dublin became the First Dealership In the Region to install a Commercial Scale Wind Turbine. The Wind Turbine stands 150 Feet Tall, including the 69 foot rotor, and can produce up to 100 kilowatts.

The Byers Subaru Dublin Wind Turbine is projected to produce annually 150,000 kilowatt-hours.  Which put into terms of household production, would equal enough energy to run 15 households, based on the Ohio Average usage as calculated by the U.S. Department of Energy.

The turbine will typically provide 15 to 50 percent of the electricity needed at any given time, of course depending on wind speed and time of day.

Technological advancements in the wind energy and policy changes have helped sustain 20-30% growth in wind energy production every year since the mid 90's. And yet we have barely scratched the surface. Globally the long term technical potential of wind energy is believed to be five times all current electricity demand. Wind is readily available and infinite so long as the sun is shining.

Wind turbines types are becoming more and more feasible for all of us as developers try to design turbines that can make use of wind in all types of applications. Wind farms out in the ocean using massive horizontal access turbines are the start of the industry but small vertical access turbines for residential application might be the future. The possibilities are endless with 20-30% growth per annum; the field is drawing more and more attention.

As an example a well sited 3.2kW turbine will run your typical 3-bed house in its entirely. It would take (56) 125w solar PV panels to do the same job. All while the photovoltaic would cost around 3 times as much as the turbine.

A wind turbine that can begin making power up to 150,000 kW a year, on wind speeds as low at 3m per second (6mph). This amount of energy produced can meet all the energy needs for most municipalities, schools, and small industrial sites.

Advancement in design of wind turbines take advantage of gearless design, harmonically engineered towers, sleek profiles and advanced blades. Among these benefits is the immense improvement in sound metrics. Testing on sound levels and evaluations of performance has shown that wind turbines blend in the common neighborhood activities.

Wind turbines are designed to interconnect with utilities without complicated approvals or expensive interconnection requirements. Current power converters are designed to provide smooth, clean power to local power grids. With these new technological advancements benefits and opportunities are continuously available with wind power.
